About SandyI didn’t start out as a Massage Therapist. Or a Reiki Master.I spent almost twenty years in the field of computer systems consulting, working in the healthcare and financial industries. It had its perks, the best of which were regular paychecks and -- during some assignments -- two-hour lunches. But it also had its down sides, the worst of which were being on-call all the time, and being so stressed out that it took a serious toll on my physical health. By then it was clear that I needed to make some major changes. I studied Reiki, and then attended New York’s Swedish Institute for Massage Therapy and became NY-state licensed. Sparing the details involved in making a 180-degree switch in career and lifestyle: I fell in love with this work and took a one-year leave of absence from Wall Street, which then morphed into a permanent career change. I have never regretted this. My practice is in Upper Manhattan, minutes from the A train and the fabulous Cloisters Museum & Fort Tryon Park. Coming to this neighborhood is your first step in giving yourself the gift of relaxation, as you walk from the subway along tree-lined Pinehurst Avenue on your way to your massage or Reiki session! My clients range from small business owners to musicians; students to career professionals; teenagers to retirees; people with numerous chronic conditions and illnesses, and those who simply need to "tune out" and be taken care of -- actually, isn't that what we all need now and then? Over and over, clients tell me about the lasting effects of healing touch they experience when they come to me for their sessions. My work is based on two primary principles: 1. Every massage session is customized to your particular needs. One week your back may need extra attention; the next week your back may feel better, but you’re still feeling very stressed out. No two sessions are the same. Whether through the use of rigorous deep tissue massage, slow gentle pressure, energy healing - or some combination of these, your needs determine the type of session that you will have - each time you come. 2. I work in tandem with your own internal ability to relax and heal. My hands are in a dialogue with your body. Just as a cut heals itself once it has been properly cleaned, both Massage and Reiki facilitate our body’s wonderful system of self healing, and its desire for homeostasis - our proper balance of health. Confidentiality is a fundamental aspect of my work. As you become relaxed during your session, you may find yourself sharing feelings and information about yourself that are deeply personal. I respect the trust you place in me, and you may be assured that all aspects of our time together are therefore treated with the utmost confidentiality. Finally, massage therapy is not sexual massage; appropriate draping is observed, client privacy is respected, and the boundaries of the client-practitioner relationship are maintained at all times. Please contact me to find out more about my work; I’ll be glad to speak with you and answer your questions. Don't forget to ask me about cost-efficient frequency packages. More is truly better! | |
